With the arrival of September, it's time for us to rev up one of our most recent "Baptismal Milestones": the blessing of the backpacks! This was originally done for students going back to school. But then, adults said, "Can't I have my briefcase blessed as well?" Other people asked "May I have my insulated lunch bag/tote bag/attache case blessed?" On September 6th and 7th, if you bring your bag to worship we will offer a word of blessing for your daily work in the world! When you arrive to worship, bring your bag forward and place it in front of the altar to be blessed at a special time during the worship service. This is our congregation's way of letting you know that even when you are outside our walls, we are praying for you and with you. We figure that if you start your school year in prayer and blessings it helps determine the course of the whole year. It's like waking up in the morning and saying, "I am baptized!" Washing your hands, brushing your teeth, or taking a bath helps to remind you of the waters of God's grace that wash over you each day! |

If you have a child who has been asking about instruction to receive first communion, there are three opportunities between now and Easter, 2009. The first class of the two-part instruction time will be offered during the Sunday School hour, but on a week when there is no Sunday School class (except in March 2009).
The first opportunity will be Sunday, September 7th at 9:45 AM in the Parish Hall. The second part of the class will be offered on Tuesday, September 23rd from 7:35 to 8:15 PM. The students will receive first communion at the worship services the weekend of October 4th and 5th. As always, a parent or guardian needs to accompany the child to the two class sessions. There will be printed materials to assist the parent/guardian in reviewing and continuing the instruction at home. Further information is available on the two additional classes, the first beginning in November 2008 and the other in March 2009. Call the church office to enroll your child. (609) 267-0740 |

Come for a special Sunday School Celebration in the Parish Hall. All ages are invited. Time is 9:45 AM. All persons age 0-99 are invited to attend this year's "Education Kick-Off" (previously known as "Rally Day") on September 14th at 9:45am. Come join us as we have an intergenerational gathering in the Sanctuary followed by break-out sessions to meet teachers and staff, learn more about the 2008-2009 education offerings, and to share in the excitement of learning about God's Word! If you were inspired by Pastor Jost's sermon on August 17th, you might even join in the cheer of "Go Jesus, Go Jesus, Whoop! Whoop!" You DON'T want to miss this! *Disclaimer*: You may think this event is just for kids--NOT TRUE! There are learning opportunities for everyone--Kids and Adults. Come see what's going on this year and sign up for a class! Sunday School registration for ages 2 through 12th grade is available online and in paper form in the narthex. Sign up now! Hey Kids--Since this Sunday Education Kick-Off Celebration falls on Holy Cross Sunday, we want to see your crosses! Pictures of crosses with YOU. Find any cross you can--it can be an actual cross or just something that is in the shape of a cross (like the top of a telephone pole). Take your photographs and bring them in any time for display.
Meet you at the "Cross"roads when our paths "cross" in September! We can't wait to see your creative photos! |
