Did you know 1 in 5 American children is in desperate need of shoes? Statistics show that 15.6% of children under the age of 18 in New Jersey live in poverty. That number increases to 17.4% for children 5 and under. And those numbers don’t include “the working poor” – families who don’t fall under the poverty line, but are struggling to get by.
While we (and other organizations) often hold food and clothing drives for those in need, shoes are often overlooked. A well-fitting pair of shoes can make a huge difference for a child. They can go outside, run, jump and play. They can be kids without the worry of a hole in the bottom of their shoes letting water in or their toes being pinched, making every step hurt.
We are asking for donations of new children’s shoes from toddler sizes to size 6. The shoes will be distributed to Bridge of Peace as well as local schools.
Place your donations in the “Shoe Box” in the narthex!
